Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrates 41 years of ASEAN by hosting a seminar on “How ASEAN Can be a People-centered Community” :
On 8 August 2008 at an afternoon session at the Foreign Ministry, a seminar was held under the theme “How ASEAN Can be a People-centered Community”. The event marked the 41st anniversary of the establishment of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) which in 1967 saw its birth in Bangkok. This year Thailand chairs ASEAN which includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.

Malaysian Ambassador bids farewell to Foreign Minister
On 4 August 2008, Dato’ Shaarani bin Ibrahim, Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Tej Bunnag on the occasion of the completion of his assignment to Thailand.

Thammasat University won the CBS Case Competition 2008
On 5th March, 2008, Mrs.Cholchineepan Chiranond, Ambassdor of the Kingdom of Thailand to Copenhagen held a reception to congratulate all 4 Thai students from Thammasat University who won First Prize from Copenhagen Business School (CBS) Case Competition 2008 at the residence.

Peace and Harmony Co-existing Among Diversity of Faiths
As a key policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand to deepen understanding of principles among different religious faiths, The Most Venerable Professor Dr. Phra Dharmakosajarn (Prayoon Dhammacitto), Rector of the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU), led a delegation of five Buddhist monks to visit Cairo from 9-12 March 2008 to meet with H.E. Dr. Muhammad Sayid Tantawi, Grand Imam Sheikh of Al-Azhar and Pope Shadoudah III, Coptic Orthodox Patriarch, the highest Christian priest in Egypt. The Buddhist, Islamic and Christian dignitaries’ meetings signified the possibility of peaceful cooperation among diversities.

 
 
 

Irish investors visit Thailand:
A group of investors from Northern Ireland will visit Thailand and Southeast Asia later this month to explore opportunities for trade, joint ventures and technology transfer agreements.

Major Cineplex looks west to India:
Major Cineplex, Thailand's largest operator of multiplex cinemas, will make its first foreign investment with the planned launch of bowling alleys and karaoke lounges in India.

Olympic Game spurs more arrivals to Thailand:
Qantas and British Airways acclaimed that Thailand would get more arrivals from Europe and Australia this year, which the Olympic Game was scheduled to hold in China.

Thailand welcomes steel investors:
Nippon Steel JFE of Japan and Baosteel Group of China have expressed their interest in investing in upstream steel plants in Thailand, expected to invest Bt100 billion each, according to Board of Investment Secretary-General Satit Chajanavakul.

Bangkok Airways
Bangkok Airways, the country's largest privately owned carrier, plans to turn Samui Airport into a second international air hub after Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport in the next one or two years. The airline would launch more direct international flights for medium-haul routes through the small resort airport. The plan falls under Bangkok Airways' growth plan and the mandate of the Samui Property Fund.

Thailand is voted as the best destination for beach holiday in The People’s Travel Award.
Thailand has become a well-known and well-liked travel destination for many Norwegians. The Land of Smiles also went to the top in the People’s Travel Award followed by Greek islands, the Caribbean, Italian Riviera, Canary Islands, Croatia, Mallorca, Egypt, Turkey, and Denmark. The country’s hospitality, low prices and stable climate attracted more than 100,000 Norwegians last year.
